Minh Mang Tomb, also known as Hieu Lang, is the resting place of King Minh Mang, the second emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. The mausoleum is located on Cam Ke Mountain, Huong Tho Commune, Huong Tra District, about 12 km from the center of Hue City. King Thieu Tri initiated the construction in 1840, and artisans completed it in 1843, showcasing the majestic stature of the Nguyen Dynasty.
The mausoleum covers an area of about 18 hectares, including more than 40 large and small architectural items arranged along a symmetrical central axis. Surrounded by La Thanh, Trung Minh Lake is in front, and sculptures are imbued with Confucianism and East Asian feng shui. The overall appearance is harmonious between the natural mountains, rivers, lakes, and the cultural values of the ancient royal court.

Tu Duc Tomb, also known as Khiem Lang, is the final resting place of King Tu Duc, the fourth emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty. Construction began in 1864 and was completed in the mid-1860s. The mausoleum is located in a quiet valley in Duong Xuan Thuong village, about 10 km from the center of the ancient capital of Hue, 6 km to the northeast. King Tu Duc, well-versed in Confucianism and passionate about poetry, personally selected the site and sketched the plan, turning the mausoleum into a second palace in harmony with nature.
The mausoleum complex covers nearly 12 hectares, including two main areas: Khiem Palace and Khiem Tomb, surrounded by lakes and cool pine forests. The architecture is imbued with the quintessence of East Asian feng shui, with more than 40 large and small works such as Hien Khiem Gate, Hoa Khiem Palace, Xung Khiem Altar, and Van Nien Co Temple. The tomb is located on Chau Chu hill, Thuy Bang commune, Huong Thuy district, about 10 km from the center of Hue city.
The mausoleum complex has a modest area (about 117 m × 48.5 m) but is designed elaborately, harmoniously combining Eastern and Western architecture. The works in the Khai Dinh Mausoleum use construction materials imported from France and other countries worldwide. The design style of this mausoleum is a blend of many styles, from Europe to Asia. Located between Thieu Tri and Tu Duc tombs, visitors will come to Dong Khanh Tomb, also known as Tu Lang, the resting place of the ninth king of the Nguyen Dynasty. The tomb is on Cu Si mountain, Thuy Xuan ward, Hue city. Tu Lang is considered one of the seven most beautiful tombs of the ancient capital and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage on December 11, 1993.
Construction began in 1887, and the project lasted for four kings over 35 years before completion. After a significant restoration, the mausoleum will officially open to tourists in June 2022. An interesting thing about the architecture is the fusion of Asian and European styles. The mausoleum uses reinforced cement, glass, and brilliant mosaic ceramics. However, the sculptures and reliefs have a strong Eastern character but are stylized in a Western style, creating a feeling that is both ancient and modern.

Continue to Thieu Tri Tomb, or Xuong Lang, in the Hue Entrance Fee list. The project was started by King Tu Duc in February 1848 and completed in May 1848. The tomb is located in Cu Chanh village, Thuy Bang commune, Huong Thuy district, about 8km northwest of Hue Citadel.
The mausoleum was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage on December 11, 1993, along with the Complex of Hue Monuments. The uniqueness of this mausoleum is its unique northwest orientation – the only orientation among the Nguyen Dynasty mausoleums.
The mausoleum is divided into two main axes. The right axis includes the Nhuan Trach – Ung Thuy lake system winding through the underground gate, leading to Bai Dinh yard with Bi Dinh and Duc Hinh pavilion. The left axis is the path through the ceremonial gate, Tien Dinh yard to Dich Lang palace.

Hue Royal Antiquities Museum
The museum, established in 1923, is located at 03 Le Truc within the Hue Imperial Citadel and was the first museum in the ancient capital. The builders, commissioned by King Thieu Tri, originally constructed the building using 128 precious wooden pillars, each intricately carved with four sacred animals: Dragon, Qilin, Turtle, and Phoenix. They also inscribed 1,000 poems in Chinese characters throughout the structure.
Currently preserving more than 700 royal artifacts: blue-glazed ceramics, gold and silver jewelry, royal textiles, bronze drums, ancient coins, and more than 80 Champa art statues. This is an ideal place to explore the tangible and intangible heritage of the Nguyen Dynasty.
Hon Chen Temple
Located on Ngoc Tran mountain, Ngoc Ho commune, about 8 km southwest of Hue city center, Hon Chen (Hue Nam Temple) is a complex of more than 10 worshiping structures along the Perfume River – a place that combines Champa, Buddhism and worship of the Holy Mother Lieu Hanh – showing a unique cultural exchange.
The highlight is Minh Kinh Dai temple in the center; on the right are the mandarin’s office, Trinh Cat communal house and pagoda; on the left is Ngu Hanh temple, the Tiger altar and the Guardian altar; close to the river bank is Thuy Phu communal house.
An Dinh Palace
An Dinh Palace is located along the An Cuu Canal, 197 Phan Dinh Phung, only 2 km from the city center. Originally a private palace for Crown Prince Buu Dao (later Khai Dinh) from 1901, it was built in modern European style in 1917 and completed in 1919. The complex includes the main gate, Trung Lap Bao, and Khai Tuong Dien with three floors, Western-patterned walls inlaid with porcelain, Western wall paintings, and splendid gilded interiors, creating a vivid demonstration of the Royal architecture of the late Nguyen Dynasty.
Nam Giao Altar
Nam Giao Altar, or Esplanade of Sacrifice to the Heaven and Earth, is located south of Hue Citadel, started by King Gia Long in 1806 and completed in 1807. This is where the annual Heaven-Earth worship ceremony is held according to the Nine-Curve Altar ritual (Cửu Khúc đăng đàn).
There are three steps, symbolizing Heaven, Earth, and Human, in an area of up to 10 hectares. The altar has been restored many times, becoming a relic associated with the feng shui of “sitting on the mountain facing the water(tọa sơn hướng thủy).” Today, it reenacts the Nguyen Dynasty’s royal court rituals during the Hue Festivals.
