Day 1: Phnom Penh – Chau Doc
Early in the morning, we will have time to explore the Capital of Phnom Penh by ourselves. At noon, we will be transferred to the boat pier for boarding to Chau Doc by Hang Chau Express boat. The journey along the Mekong River will take about 4 hours, so we will arrive at Chau Doc, in Vietnam, at around 6pm. In this bustling border town, many people live by the river in stilt houses and on it in floating houses. This is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse towns in the Mekong delta. Overnight in Chau Doc.
Day 2: Chau Doc – Can Tho
After breakfast, we will enjoy a boat trip to the Cham minority village. We will pass along a beautiful floating village which houses have nice balconies in bloom. Then we will visit the Cham village and its traditional stilt houses and mosques. Afterwards we drive up to Sam Mountain to enjoy panoramic view down to Mekong Delta & Cambodia before leaving Chau Doc for Can Tho, the largest city on the delta. We will transfer to a small village around Cai Rang district by boat to a local home for overnight stay. Bike around the village to experience the life style of the Mekong delta people before joining our host family for cooking and having dinner with them. Biking distance: 15- 20kms. Overnight local home in Cantho (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner).
Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon
After breakfast, we will take a boat to visit the morning market of Cai Rang, the largest of the floating markets around Can Tho. Traders paddle from boat to boat, selling a variety of goods amid a traffic jam of sampans. Then, we will keep cruising through the small channels system to visit a rice noodle making village. The region of Can Tho is a major agricultural centre, with rice milling as its main industry. There, you will learn how the noodles of the traditional Vietnamese soup are made and will be able to challenge yourself by crossing a “Monkey bridge”. Monkey bridges are built with bamboo trunks, one for the feet, one to hold oneself, and so are rickety, but delta people used them for centuries. Drive back Ho Chi Minh City in the end of the afternoon. Overnight in Saigon (Breakfast / Lunch)
